Introducing....

The Intoxicating Liquor Act 1988 (Age Card) Regulations 2007 provide for a voluntary National Age Card scheme.  National Age Card’s can be obtained by individuals aged 18 and over to show that they have reached the legal age for purchasing alcohol.

A National Age Card is a “proof of age card” and not an “Identity Card”. The National Age Card is solely for the purpose stated above and should not be obtained or used for any other purpose.

The National Age Card shows:

  1. Your name
  2. Your Date of Birth
  3. Your Photograph
  4. Relevant Security Features

Checklist

To Apply for a National Age Card the applicant must meet the following requirements:

  1. Must be 18 years of age or over on the date of the application
  2. Must apply at the local Garda Station
  3. Provide a Birth Certificate OR a Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) card. (Nothing else will be accepted – If applicant does not have either of the above he/she will be unable to obtain an Age Card)
  4. Have one other form of identification. (Driving Licence/Student Card/Passport or similar identification)
  5. Provide 1 recent passport style photograph.
  6. The €10 fee.

NB If you are aged between 18-21 and have an old style age card – you can upgrade to a new card free of charge by completing a new application form and surrendering your old Agecard.
